Scott Adkins Training Secrets

Scott Adkins: When I first watched ‘Blood sport’ when I was 12 years old, I remember that being the day that I said to my mother, “Mummy, Mummy I know what I want to do with my life” and she was like, “what?” I said, “I want to do what that guy, Jean-Claude Van Damme does. Just live in the gym, simple as that. The thing about me is, I enjoy to train. I miss it if I don’t do it, so I’m in the gym every day. Get in the gym for at least 40 minutes every day- maybe have one day off a week- you’re gonna be in good shape.
Watch your diet don’t eat the bad foods, it’s pretty simple. It really does take up a lot of your time. Luckily, if you enjoy it, it’s easily done. Now I’m getting older trying to do a lot more stretching and do some yoga and stuff. When you do a lot of weight training as well, you tend to make your muscles really tight. So staying flexible is really important especially as you get older, so I do much
more stretching now or try to but generally if I’m not working, I’m training five times a week- whether it’s weight training or martial arts or running or something. How long? I don’t go more than an hour, but if I’m getting ready for a film, I train twice a day. I’m always working out but if I know I’ve got a martial arts film coming up, obviously, I ramp up the training at that that extra mile to make sure that I’m ready for the film.
So at the moment I’m just getting ready to shoot ‘Undisputed 4’ in a couple of weeks, so I’ve been training pretty hard. That’s it. You’ve got to believe in yourself and I always believed in myself, but most importantly inside my heart this was the only thing I ever wanted to do and I decided I’m not going to settle for anything else. I made the decision to go for it and to put everything I had into it.
