Agent Red (2000)

Agent Red is a 2000 Americanaction filmdirected byDamian LeeandJim Wynorskiand starringDolph Lundgren. Its plot concerns two soldiers stuck on a submarine with a group of terrorists who plan to use a chemical weapon on America. After the film was completed, producerAndrew Stevensdeemed it too inept to be released. ScreenwriterSteve Latshawwas brought in to make the film at least half-competent, while Wynorski was hired to direct some new scenes (about 40 minutes of footage in three days) and insert stock footage (mostly fromFred Olen Ray‘sCounter MeasureswithMichael Dudikofffrom which it became a remake of) where appropriate.

Captain Matt Hendricks and Dr. Linda Christian are trapped in a submarine with Russian terrorists who are threatening to spread a chemical virus in the US. Dolph Lundgren stars in Die Hard on a submarine clone, which isn’t really all that surprising, but that’s because, according to IMDB producer Jim Wynorski, he had to reshoot about forty minutes of footage in three days. You may also notice that some of the early footage is taken from Dolph’s Stormcatcher as it all looked pretty familiar. After a rather rambling first 45 minutes, the film picks up steam as the bad guys take over an American submarine, planning to spread a virus known as “Agent Red” to Moscow and New York. The big evil is Kretz (Alexander Kuznetsov), who is rather wooden and doesn’t pose a distant threat, but at least they try to give him some depth, as they regularly use this weapon against their own, so he wants to teach them a lesson.

Sometimes you can see his arguments, but you know that he still needs to be removed, and the captain. Matt Hendrix (Lundgren) is the man for the job. The best thing about this movie is that Dolph, in full John McClain persona, is on the radio with Kretz, letting him know that he killed some of his people. All your friends are on permanent sick leave” and “Right Names, Wrong Plan of Existence, Buddy.” Hendrix teams up with his ex-fiancee Dr. Linda Christian, who is a tough girl in her own right and has a few fight scenes so she’s far from a damsel in distress. There are a few action scenes in which Dolph does what he does best, but instead I would recommend “Team Performance” if you want to see an excellent Die Hard clone led by Lundgren. Overall, Agent Red is a little confusing, but with Dolph enough to enjoy a form of entertainment, a couple of cheesy dialogue, and a few fight scenes. For Dolph accessories only.
