End of a Gun (2016)

Plot:

Seagal plays Michael Decker, a former DEA agent who was fired without pay or benefits and now lives in France. One night, he sees a man beating a woman, Lisa (Jade Ewan), and steps in to help. During the ensuing fight, Decker shoots and kills the man. Later the next day, Lisa comes to Decker with a proposal. if he can help her steal her now-deceased handler’s money, she will split it with him. As a man with little money and deadly skills to boot, Decker agrees. However, it turns out that the money belongs to the master. Vargas, a drug lord who sends his enforcer Gage to recover the money. When Gage eventually kidnaps Lisa, Decker must decide whether to run away with his half of the money or stand up and teach everyone a lesson in honor.

As always, Seagal is the producer of the film, and he is clearly having fun in the usual action. The Parisian setting also gives the film a resemblance to Luc Besson, who has shot many action films over the past few years. This film is not much different from any other set of other similar films, but it will give pleasure to those who like fast action. Steven Seagal is now 71 years old and is still churning out several action films a year. Most are made direct to DVD or cable TV as he has lost much of his appeal since his hey-day as an action star in the late 1980a and early 1990s. His contemporaries, Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme are also still making action films that are constantly being churned out.

Production:

The film is set in France, but was shot in Romania, New Orleans and Atlanta, Georgia in August–September 2015. Waxman said the film was “very different Seagal movie than Killing Salazar – this one is more like The Keeper. Steven in suits being chased by cool French bad guys – like an Elmore Leonard story (think Out of Sight). Steven and Jade Ewen are a great crime film couple on a double crossing heist.
