He played Bruce Lee and admired Sammo Hung (Philip Ng)

Hello friends. Philip Ng Wan-lun was born in Hong Kong on September 16, 1977. He lived most of his youth in America and became an avid practitioner and teacher of various martial arts. In his home country, he built a stable film career. As an actor and choreographer, he began to pave his way back in the early 2000s. Philip has already worked with some of the best in the industry, including Ringo Lam and Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan. He emigrated from Hong Kong to America at the age of 7. He spent most of his youth in Chicago, where he began to study the martial arts of Wing Chun and Taekwondo. In 1997, he left for Hong Kong, where he studied with the famous master Shun Lang. Philip graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA in Graphic Design and an MA in Education.
There, at the university, he founded the Wing Chun Association and spent five years as its chairman, serving as the chief instructor and president of the club. Through the association, he sparred extensively with other martial arts such as jiu-jitsu and muay thai. In 2001 he began his work in the film “Born Wild”. In 2004, he took part in the creation of the famous film “New Police Story” with Jackie Chan, and in 2007 he starred in the action movie “Invincible Target”. In 2014, Philip finally achieved his main goal and starred in the film “Once Upon a Time in Shanghai.” 2016 also became a significant year for the actor. He starred in Women’s Special Squad and was cast as Bruce Lee in the biopic A Dragon Is Born.
The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. In 2008, Philip was supposed to star in the movie Dragon’s Paws. But the whole process seemed somehow strange and surreal. Philip was approached by an American production company with an offer to work as the main actor and choreographer of action scenes. The project was financed by a production company from India. Philip flew in with his team to film the trailer. The local team was great, but during the work Philip had a feeling that something was wrong and changes were brewing. His suspicions were confirmed during his second visit to India. The owner of a local production company decided that now his nephew should become the maincharacter, and Philip was approved for another role.
After that, Philip left the project, and since then they have not moved on. Philip draws his strength from classic Hong Kong choreography and films by Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, mixing it all with the hardcore action peeped in the works of Donnie Yen. But more than anyone else, he admires Sammo Hung because of his experience. This applies not only to staging and performing action scenes, but also to all aspects of filmmaking from concept to final product.Sammo Hung’s vast store of cinematic wisdom is definitely the level that Philip seeks to achieve. At the moment, Philip continues to engage in martial arts and is actively filming in trailers for action cinematography. We wish him success and new roles in the cinema.
