The action star endured a near-death experience on the set of “Expendables 3”. His co-star witnessed;
”During quite a dangerous stunt Jason Statham was driving this truck and we were supposed to be on the back of this truck,”
“He literally is supposed to stop the truck, we get out, we shoot, the whole thing … (only) the truck doesn’t stop. The truck goes over the dock, into the Black Sea with Jason Statham driving.
Statham managed to escape the submerged truck and swim to shore after the brakes failed to stop in time for a stunt sequence.

“In your mind you have an action film where you’re like, ‘If that happens, I’m going to grab the truck, I’m going to do all this stuff — but I was like, ‘Jason! Jason!,” Crews said, mimicking panicked screams.
Crews said the cast and crew were “freaking out” and screaming.
I’m in a heap on the ground, he’s in the water, in the truck. Now we are freaking out, everybody’s screaming.”
But of all the heavy hitters on the cast of “Expendables 3” — including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes and Dolph Lundgren — Statham was the best suited for the situation. Long before he started his acting career, he was an Olympic-level diver for Great Britain who
once placed 12th at the World Championships. If he weren’t a skillful diver, it’s tough to imagine what could happen.
“He gets out, swims to the top, and the truck is gone,” Crews told Leno.”Let me tell you something, Jason Statham is a true bad, bad dude.”
Statham’s penchant for performing his own fight sequences and stunts is what earned him a spot among the other action icons in the “The Expendables” movies — as well as the villain in the “Fast & Furious 7.
”When you see the actor doing the stunts and doing the fight sequences and you know it’s them, it just feels so much better. There’s a lot to be said for someone that’s the real deal, rather than someone who sits in a chair and lets the stunt man do the work.
