Kung Fu vs Karate “Karate” is usually used as a generic term for Okinawan or Japanese martial arts that favor striking, punching and kicking over throwing and grappling (though they do contain these aspects as well). Some use weapons, some don’t. There are hundreds or possibly thousands of styles of Karate. “Kung Fu” is usually used as a generic term for Chinese originated martial arts. There are thousands of styles, many very different from each other. Some use weapons, some don’t. Some are “hard styles” and some are “soft styles”. It depends on the practitioner. And the style of most importantly king Fu. That said though karate is a ancestor of Kung Fu. So karate was first Kung Fu was second. Karate actually evolved into Kung Fu and became better karate if you will. White tiger a Chinese shaolin monk learned to break coconuts with his bare hands in return from local desert dwellers to teach Kung Fu. There was a evolution of martial arts this is for sure.
