What is Chun Kuk Do?

Chun Kuk Do is an American hybrid martial arts style based on Traditional Taekwondo styles such as Tang Soo Do/Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo. Chun Kuk Do was established in 1990 by celebrity martial artist Chuck Norris. The phrase “Chun Kuk Do” is Korean and is loosely translated as “The Universal Way.” Chun Kuk Do is regarded as an offshoot of the Korean martial arts Tang Soo Do, to which Mr Chuck Norris added the American flavor and claimed it as his own. However, this effective combative style does not carry the genes of Tang Soo Do alone; this sport, in fact, is a compact bundle of various fighting styles of the world including Karate of Japan, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The art evolved from the original training of Chuck Norris in Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan, a Korean style known mainly for kicking techniques.

Norris trained other styles with respected instructors in the United States, Shotokan Karate Shinto Ryu Karate Kenpo Karate founded by Ed Parker, Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. .

Every year, the United Fighting Arts Federation (UFAF) hosts the Chun Kuk Do World Educational Conference and Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. Like many other martial arts, Chun Kuk Do contains a code of honor and rules for use. These rules are part of Chuck Norris’s Personal Code:
